Frequently asked questions
How much are tickets?
Tickets are $10 per adult and are purchased online in advance. Children don’t need a ticket. A ticket is entry only (see the refund question below for how refunds work).
Where is the Garage Sale held?
It’s held in the front yard of a private home in Royal Oak, Auckland. The exact address is only shared with confirmed ticket holders before the event.
Can I get a refund on my ticket?
Ticket refunds are store credit only. If you can’t make it, for whatever reason, email or message us to request your ticket be refunded as store credit. Please do this as soon as you know, so we can offer your spot to someone waiting, and no later than 48 hours after the event. Tickets are non-refundable if you attend and don’t find anything to purchase. The only exception is if we have to change the date because of weather (see below).
What happens if the weather is bad?
If bad weather means we need to change the date, we’ll make the call based on the forecast and conditions, and confirm the new date with ticket holders within 24 hours of the event. You can then confirm you’ll attend the new date or, if you can’t make it, request a full refund (not store credit), as the weather is out of your control.
Where does my $10 ticket go?
Your $10 ticket is the entry fee for the event and goes to The Thrifting Den, to help cover the time and effort of running it. 100% of clothing-sale proceeds go to charity.
Can I transfer my ticket to another person?
No. Your ticket purchase is subject to everything on this page, and buying a ticket confirms you’ve read and understood these details. If a ticket is transferred, we can’t be sure the new person has read them. If you can’t make it, you can request store credit (see the refund question above), and anyone else is welcome to buy their own ticket if spots are available.
Can I bring a friend or family member?
Only if they have their own ticket. Every adult attending needs a $10 ticket. Children don’t need a ticket but must be supervised.
Can I bring my kids?
Yes, children are welcome and don’t need a ticket (tickets are for adults only). There are no toys or activities to keep little ones busy, and the sale is right next to a main road, so children who aren’t in a pram or carrier will need your full, hands-on supervision. If you can, we recommend leaving free-roaming little ones at home with another trusted adult, so you can browse in peace and everyone stays safe. Older children are welcome to come along, but only ticket holders can shop, so they can’t dig through the tubs to help you.
Can I purchase tickets at the event?
No. Tickets must be purchased online before the event. Only a limited number of tickets are released and we plan the event around those numbers, so we can’t sell tickets on the day.
Can I arrive at any time during the event?
Yes! There’s one continuous two-hour shopping window, so arrive whenever suits you and browse at your own pace. We pack up exactly at the finish time, so please arrive with enough time to browse. Because of family commitments and the event being held on a weekend, browsing time won’t be extended for anyone who arrives late or close to pack-down time.
What types of clothing will be available?
Prem to 10 years clothing, plus a small section of baby and kids’ footwear and a small selection of ladies’ clothing. Everything is $1 per item, not per set, so a matching top and bottoms is $2 in total. It’s a mixture of seconds (items with imperfections) and dead stock (good items that haven’t sold), sorted by size.
Are all items faulty?
No. Some pieces have noticeable faults and others have none at all. Items aren’t individually fault-labelled, and some faults are hard to spot in certain lighting, so please check your items carefully before buying, ideally in natural light. Areas to check: zips, domes (press studs), stitching and seams, buttons, hems, elastic and waistbands, necklines and collars, underarms, knees and elbows, thin or worn fabric, pilling, small holes and stains.
Can I return items?
We don’t offer change-of-mind returns. Because this is a Seconds Garage Sale, please assume items may have faults. This doesn’t affect your rights under the Consumer Guarantees Act.
What payment methods are accepted?
Tickets are paid online at checkout. Everything at the sale is $1 per item (not per set) and cash only on the day, so please bring small notes and coins.
Why is it cash only? Can I pay by EFTPOS or bank transfer?
Selling items by EFTPOS or through the website costs fees, and because all clothing proceeds go to charity, we want that to mean all of it. We’re also keeping things simple and traditional, garage sale style, so we don’t take bank transfers either.
Can I shop The Thrifting Den’s regular items while I’m there?
Yes, but online! The Thrifting Den is an online-only store, so there’s no physical browsing at the sale and no access to the house where our regular items are kept. You’re welcome to shop our website from your phone while you’re there. You’re also welcome to make an order before the day and pick it up at the event.
Can resellers attend?
No. Our Garage Sales are for families shopping for their own kids, so we ask that resellers and anyone buying items to on-sell don't attend. Tickets are paid and limited, and we want every ticket holder to have a fair chance at the tubs.
How often are Garage Sales held?
Occasionally, roughly every two to three months depending on demand and available stock.
Are bathroom facilities available?
No. There’s no access to the house or private bathrooms, but there are public toilets nearby. We’ll let ticket holders know where the closest ones are.
Where can I park?
Street parking only. Please be considerate of neighbours and don’t park at neighbouring businesses or shops.
